Be Counter Cultural

Be Counter Cultural. Reject the societal norm in which greed is good. Selfishness and individuality obsessive. Stand against the grain of a society that tells us consumption leads to happiness. Take issue with a culture that values people based on how much money they make or things they own. Deconstruct the motives of a world that throws away enough food to feed all of the starving. Question a people which has driven species after species to extermination.

But, do not Rage though there are so many reasons. Rage burns hot, but when things do not change you will find yourself exhausted and overpowered. There is a place for rage and nonacceptance. Internally rage will burn away lies but has no real power to directly improve the external world. Those who have raged externally have thought that by taking freedoms away from others (such as communism or religious tyranny) or by making enough noise (yelling on street corners and terrorism) that they will make people better. This has not worked.

Instead, stand in Joyful opposition, your Existence against the Grain. Stand for love and inclusiveness. Stand for generosity and selflessness. Stand for more peace and less consumption. Buy one less thing you do not need and give one more smile to someone who needs it.

Stand against the flow of society and be at peace knowing that perhaps nothing will change. Perhaps the inexorable flow towards obsessive consumption and isolation will continue. Find peace in knowing that whatever comes, you stood for that which was true.

breathe of the sunlight

the breathe of the sunlight caresses.
petals pounding remind me of life.
light is reflected in crystalline water.
in this moment I can remember I am alive and know it.

this is the only moment that matters

live

challenge your long held beliefs
be at peace with uncertainty
never stop learning
appreciate the mysteries of the universe

you are more than your brain.

diminishing

elder, do not forget to cry.
stand strong, forgive.
trust, forget betrayals.
love true, be unafraid.

man, know your mistakes.
walk away, become less.
let pride fade.

child, leafs cracking in your hands smelling of autom are all that matters

nursing myself

nursing myself back to life
got to remember
before there was her there was me

before my purpose was to love her
there was another purpose.

Knees creak

knees creak and heart aches.

is this the life you chose?

a life filled with white deceptions and empty of passions

what are you living for?

fictions feed you

this is why you are never full.

Try

the great teachers of the world
will tell you that it does not matter
what you do
so long as you do it with love.

however, even as you love,
a child is beaten by a father too drunk to remember,
a broken 16-year old first prostitutes herself ,
and a starving family huddles around the embers of a dying fire.

do you dare tell yourself
as you sip your 4-dollar coffee
that your actions are unimportant?

every gifted dollar feeds a person for a day,
every kind word mends broken spirits,
and every hour thoughtfully spent
shows someone they are not forgotten.

you alone cannot fix the world
but if you do nothing,
then you have not even tried.

harsh words

pain poisons the words from your tongue.
without regard to where it pierces
always finds a way to the heart.

do i turn away,
awed and defeated
by the darkness that flows
from your lips?

beneath the anger pleads a frustrated child
beautiful,
innocent,
confused.

if i were a goose

if i were a goose
readying for slaughter
i would pluck of me my stiff feathers
that when i am made a pillow of
only the softest and gentlest part of me
will ever touch your skin

as for today you have now

beggars beg
drunkards drink
hungry children dream

of flushing toilets
of full bellies
of your life

so sing for the voiceless
love the brokenhearted
stand tall for those afraid of heights.

for surely you shall fade to dust someday,
but as for today, you have now.

so make it count

look in the mirror

look in the mirror,
see beauty incomparable,
a person unlike any other.

for you are you,

unique in all of the universe.
love the person you see
and remember

if i were superman

if i were superman
i would uproot 1000 acres
of virgin amazonian rainforests
so astronauts
could read your name from the moon

today you are beautiful beyond comprehension

today you are beautiful beyond comprehension.
words could never express
the depth of your being,
your purposes,
or your possibilities.
